Before you decide

AI help desks: buying questions

Should I replace my help desk or add an AI layer?

Map the inbox, routing, reporting, and integrations your team already depends on. An integrated AI help desk may simplify those workflows; an added AI layer may preserve your current setup. Test the migration effort and handoff between AI and people before deciding.

Is this guide for customer support or an internal IT service desk?

This guide focuses on customer support: tickets, shared inboxes, customer knowledge, routing, and AI-assisted service. Internal IT service management may additionally require asset management, incident and change workflows, and employee provisioning. Do not assume those capabilities from the label AI help desk; confirm them separately if your team needs them.

What should an AI help desk migration plan include?

Inventory ticket history, customer records, knowledge articles, routing rules, integrations, and reports before switching. Run a pilot alongside the current process, verify human handoff, and decide how agents will recover when automation fails. Include migration work and AI add-ons in the budget.
